This weekend we had our annual leadership retreat, where we were roughing it at a nearby resort. We had a team sports theme, and we spent the evening emphasizing teamwork in our activities and leadership training. The YW leaders were the coaches leading their team to victory! But first things first. After a fun time swimming in the terrific pools and bobbing in the lazy river, all the girls came in for some typical game-day food: meatballs, nachos, mini-wieners, and the like. There were even some cocoa crispy footballs! Yum!
After the carb loading the team was ready for some physical training. First, a heart pumping relay race where we had to walk on boards with a partner. It was so hard. You really had to communicate and work together or you'd get nowhere fast!
The next game was called "Prui" and it was just nuts! It involved walking around with our eyes closed shaking hands with whoever we ran into saying "Prui?" until we found Prui and all held hands. Yep, its kinda a hippie game. So fun we played it three times!
Then we all came back inside for some Team training. Coach V. talked about teamwork, and how we all need to try harder to foster a sense of unity and love in our YW team so we can help each other to reach our goal posts together. Then Ronni had us do an activity where we each took turns writing nice stuff in each other's books. It was so fun think of all the stuff we like about each other and then fun to read all the nice stuff that everyone said about us. Thanks Ronni!
And then since we were all so full of ideas about how great we all were, we split into two teams and made up cheers for each other. They were terrific!!! Go team!
Then Coach T. talked to us about team recruiting - what we can do to make sure ALL the teammates come to the game and get a chance to participate. No bench warmers or no-shows on this team!
This was followed by a few more exercises involving sitting down and getting up (or was it sitting up and getting down?). It took some practice, but we almost got it, I think. Then, our Special Teams coach, Coach M. talked to us about strategy and planning our gameplays to make the most of our YW activities.
Then came the ice cream sundaes served in football helmets, of course. Better than Coldstone, if you ask me.
Then despite the late, late hour, we all managed to get our creative juices flowing as we made team pennants with our team motto "Be Strong" on them.In the morning when we all finally got up, we treated ourselves to yummy waffles, and discusses the upcoming roadshow.
Now that we are all home and hopefully rested, we are all ready to cheer on our team to victory! Be Strong! Go Team! Go!
